OUR FABRICS
At The Costume Room, every piece begins with the fabric.
The Costume Room works with 100% pure Irish linen, handwoven Donegal tweed and raw organic indigo denim.
Irish designer Sinéad Roberts chooses honest materials, valued for their craftsmanship, integrity, and relationship with the earth.
MATERIAL INTEGRITY
Natural fibres form the foundation of the studio’s material palette. These materials are selected for how they breathe, move, and age with use, as well as for their suitability to the design and function of each piece.
All materials are sourced in small, intentional quantities from mills and makers who value transparency, ethical production, and low-impact processes.
Our approach is simple: fewer fabrics, chosen deeply.
Every weave and texture is considered for how it feels on the skin, how it drapes, and how it lives in the wardrobe over time.
Nothing loud. Nothing rushed.
Just thoughtful, carefully considered textiles, forming the foundation of pieces made to be worn and kept.
OUR MATERIALS
100% PURE IRISH LINEN
Exclusively woven for The Costume Room by Emblem Weavers, a family-run mill in Wexford, Ireland.
Naturally breathable, biodegradable, and renowned for its durability, rooted in centuries of Irish textile craftsmanship.
RAW ORGANIC INDIGO DENIM
Made in Italy from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton.
The cotton is grown using environmentally responsible methods, and the indigo is natural, extracted from the Indigofera tinctoria plant in India.
Every stage uses REACH-approved substances, supporting safer and more responsible dyeing and finishing processes.
HANDWOVEN DONEGAL TWEED
Woven exclusively for The Costume Room by master weaver Eddie Doherty in Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland.
Each length is created on a traditional handloom, preserving the depth, texture, and character of Irish weaving heritage.
NATURAL WOOL WADDING
Used for gentle insulation and structure.
Naturally temperature-regulating, breathable, and biodegradable, offering warmth without weight.
OUR APPROACH TO MATERIALS
Material choice is guided by material integrity, performance, and care.
Where possible, natural and responsibly produced fibres are prioritised, selected not only for their beauty and comfort, but for how they respect skin, craft, and working conditions.
These materials reflect the studio’s approach to design and making.
